An individual who spiked candy with tranquilliser and gave them to children at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two boys both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at the facility in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.
Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.
The accused was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on late November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he managed.
The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She said the defendant had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about the situation, justifiably.
"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC explained materials including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She explained the man went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that time," she continued.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The legal representative stated the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson notified the law enforcement once more.
She explained the man then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five youngsters.
