Area Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for information.
A high-ranking official said the incident left him speechless and required to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
